2 Ingredient Bagels
Ingredients
- Flour1 ½ cups
- Baking powder2 ½ tsp
- Greek yoghurt1 cup
- Salt
- Egg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, add the self-raising flour and a pinch of salt, then the yogurt (add the baking powder too if using plain flour). Mix with a spoon until a big ball forms; hands work well for this.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured counter and knead for a few minutes until smooth and free of clumps. If it is too wet or sticky, add a little more flour as you knead.
- Shape the dough into a ball and cut it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
- Form each ball into a bagel: poke a hole through the middle and gently stretch it with your fingers until it is an even donut shape. Leave the hole large, because the bagels rise in the oven and the hole will close if it is small. Alternatively, roll each ball into a thick rope, join the ends and press to seal.
- Place the bagels on a parchment-lined baking tray. Optionally, brush with egg wash or olive oil spray and press everything bagel seasoning gently into the dough.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown, depending on your oven; the author's oven needed the full 30 minutes.
- Cool the bagels on a rack for 10–15 minutes before slicing them in half.
