- Carrot1
- Celery1
- Garlic3
- Salt2 tsp
- Oregano · dried1 tsp
- Black pepper · ground½ tsp
- Sugar¼ tsp
- Tomato · crushed28 oz
- Tomato paste2 tbsp
- Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
- Chicken stock2 cups
- Water plus more as needed for cooking1 cup
- Macaroni pasta2 cups

Instructions
- Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in a heavy pot or 5½ qt Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it up with a spatula for 1 minute.
- Add the carrot, onion, celery and garlic and stir until softened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt, oregano, pepper and sugar and stir.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, chicken stock and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, cover and cook for 20 minutes.
- Add the macaroni and stir. Keep at a simmer, covered, for 20 minutes, stirring often at first so the pasta does not stick. Add hot water 1/4 cup at a time if it looks dry; it should stay moist and saucy.
- Stir in the Parmesan, then taste and adjust with salt and pepper if needed.
