Au Gratin Potatoes 🧀🥔 Ultra Creamy & Golden-Baked! #shorts
Ingredients
- Butter5 tbsp
- Flour¼ cups
- Milk2 ½ cups
- Cream½ cups
- Salt1 ¼ tsp
- Black pepper · ground¼ tsp
- Onion powder1 tsp
- Garlic powder½ tsp
- Gruyère cheese · grated2 cups
- Potato3 lb
- Chive
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 3-quart (9x13 inch) casserole dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
- In a large pot over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Add the flour and whisk for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk, then the cream. Add the salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder, and keep whisking until the sauce thickens. Adjust seasoning to taste. Take off the heat and stir in half the cheese until melted.
- Peel the potatoes if you like and slice them very thin, about 1/8 inch (3 mm). A food processor makes this quick.
- Add the potatoes to the cheese sauce and stir to coat. Spread them evenly in the dish and top with the remaining cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 15-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a fork pierces the potatoes easily. For extra browning, broil 1-2 minutes at the end, watching closely so it does not burn.
- Let rest for 15 minutes before serving, and garnish with chives and black pepper if desired.
