Besan Halwa
Ingredients
- Oil3 tbsp
- Chickpea flour¾ cups
- Cardamom
- Coconut sugar⅓ cups
- Chopped nuts2 tbsp
- Currant2 tbsp
- Salt1 pinch
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chickpea flour and roast, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, until it turns slightly darker, forms crumbly lumps and starts to stick together.
- Meanwhile, bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
- Add the nuts, currants and salt to the roasted flour and cook for 2 more minutes. Stir in the sugar and cardamom seeds.
- Add 1/2 cup of the boiling water and mix well. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of water and keep stirring vigorously until the mixture is smooth and custard-like, breaking up lumps (whisk if lumps persist after 1 to 2 minutes). Cook for about 3 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Garnish with sliced nuts. Serve warm or cold. Store airtight at room temperature for a few hours, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
