Butter Naan Recipe (Soft No yeast, No Egg Naan)
Ingredients
- Flour2 cups
- Yoghurt½ cups
- Milk6–8 tbsp
- Oil2 tbsp
- Sugar2 tsp
- Salt½–¾ tsp
- Garlic · grated1–1 ½ tsp + 5–6
- Baking powder½ tsp
- Baking soda¼ tsp
- Butter · melted3 tbsp
- Cilantro¼ cups
- Onion seed1 tsp
Instructions
- Put the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar and grated garlic in a mixing bowl.
- Add the yogurt, oil and 4 tablespoons of lukewarm milk. Mix into a smooth dough, adding more warm milk as needed (up to half a cup in total).
- Knead until the dough is soft, elastic and pliable. It should dent easily when pressed with a finger.
- Optionally, cover and rest the dough for 1 to 2 hours in a warm place, or use it straight away.
- Grease your fingers, divide the dough into 6 to 8 pieces, and roll each into a smooth ball. Keep covered.
- Dust the work surface with a little flour, place a dough ball on it and roll it to about 8 to 9 inches long and 5 to 6 inches wide.
- Sprinkle the kalonji seeds, sliced garlic and coriander over the naan and press or roll them gently into the dough. Repeat for the other naans.
- Heat a griddle or pan until hot. Transfer a naan to it and cook until bubbles appear on top, about a minute.
- Flip with tongs and cook until brown spots appear on both sides. Remove to a plate and brush with butter.
- Smear more butter on top and serve right away.
