Can You Really Make Salted Caramel with Just 5 Ingredients?
Ingredients
- Sugar1 cup
- Heavy cream½ cups
- Butter6 tbsp
- Salt½ tsp
Instructions
- Put the sugar and water in a small heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-low heat and stir until the sugar dissolves, without letting it simmer.
- Raise the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Once it simmers, do not stir. Keep it simmering steadily until it reaches a deep amber colour, 8 to 10 minutes, and do not leave the pan unattended.
- Carefully whisk in the cold cubed butter; the mixture will bubble up rapidly.
- Whisk in the room-temperature heavy cream until fully combined.
- Take off the heat, whisk in the salt, and let the caramel cool completely before using.
- To reheat, use the microwave or a saucepan. Store in a jar in the fridge for up to 4 months.
