Caramelized Onion Dip

Caramelized Onion Dip

By Pinch of Yum · 60 min

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Peel the onions and slice them very thinly.
  2. Melt the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the onions, sprinkle with the salt and sugar, and cook 10–15 minutes, stirring every few minutes. Add a little wine at a time, letting it cook off each time, until the onions are deeply golden brown and fragrant, about 30 minutes in total.
  3. Chop the onions coarsely, or snip them into small pieces in the pan with kitchen scissors.
  4. Beat the cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth with a hand mixer or spoon. Stir in the onions and a handful of parsley.
  5. Taste and season. For extra flavour, add a small splash (about a tablespoon or less) of soy sauce and/or Worcestershire sauce, or a grated garlic clove. Serve warm-ish or cold.
