Cheese Scones
Ingredients
- Flour1 ¾ cups
- Cheddar cheese · shredded1 ½ cups
- Baking powder3 tsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Butter100 g
- Milk¾ cups
- Cheese · shredded½ cups
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C/390°F (180°C fan-forced).
- Put the flour, baking powder and salt in a food processor fitted with the S blade and pulse once. Add the cold butter and pulse 4 to 5 times until the largest butter pieces are pea-sized. Pulse the cheese once to mix through a little.
- With the processor running on pulse, pour in the milk through the feed tube, pulsing 8 to 10 times until the flour is just incorporated. Stop immediately; the dough should be shaggy and slightly sticky.
- Scrape the dough onto a surface dusted with 1 teaspoon flour and bring it together into a ball with your hands, using extra flour only if needed.
- Place the dough on baking paper and pat it into a round disc about 3 cm (1.2 in) thick. Brush the top and sides with milk, sprinkle with cheese and press lightly. Cut into 6 wedges.
- Transfer to a baking tray and separate the wedges so they are 5 cm (2 in) apart. Bake for 20 minutes until the surface is golden.
- Cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then serve warm with butter spread on top.
