Choc-Chip Hot Cross Buns

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, cacao powder, sugar, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Add the Greek yoghurt and mix until it forms a dough-like consistency.
  4. Add the chocolate chips and mix them through.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, adding a little more flour if it is too wet. It should be slightly tacky but not stick to your fingers.
  6. Roll into a thick log and cut into 6 even pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and arrange them in 2 rows on a baking-paper-lined tray, leaving a tiny gap between them.
  7. Whisk the plain flour, cacao and water in a bowl to a thick paste. Add more water if too dry, or a little more flour if too wet.
  8. Put the paste into a piping bag or ziplock bag, snip a small hole in the corner and pipe a cross over each bun.
  9. Bake on the top rack for 20 minutes, until risen and nicely browned.
  10. Brush each bun lightly with maple syrup and let them rest on a cooling rack for 10 minutes.
  11. Tear the buns apart and serve warm.
