Crispy Orange Tofu // Easy Vegan
Ingredients
- Extra firm tofu · cubed1
- Cornstarch⅓ cups + 1 tbsp
- Oil for frying
- Orange juice½ cups
- Orange
- Brown sugar⅓ cups
- Soy sauce⅓ cups
- Vinegar¼ cups
- Sesame oil1 tsp
- Garlic · minced1 tbsp
- Ginger paste1 tsp
Instructions
- Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch in a wide shallow dish, and let them rest while you make the sauce.
- Mix the water and 1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch, then whisk in the orange juice, orange zest, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, garlic and ginger paste.
- Bring the sauce to a boil over medium heat, stirring now and then. Lower the heat and simmer until it reaches the thickness you want, watching it closely as it thickens quickly.
- Heat about 1/8 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the tofu until light golden brown, turning it every few minutes so all sides crisp. Drain on a paper towel.
- Toss the crispy tofu with as much sauce as you like. Keep any extra sauce in an airtight container for later.
