Easy Apple Fritters Recipe | How to Make Apple Fritters
Ingredients
- Apple3
- Butter1 tbsp
- Lemon2 tbsp
- Flour1 ½ cups
- Baking powder2 tsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Cinnamon¾ tsp
- Ginger · ground¼ tsp
- Nutmeg · ground0.13 tsp
- Sugar3 tbsp + 1 ½ cups
- Egg2
- Buttermilk¾ cups
- Vanilla1 ½ tsp
- Oil
- Milk2–3 tbsp
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples, lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of sugar, and cook 4–5 minutes until slightly softened. Set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs with the buttermilk (or milk) and vanilla.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; a few lumps are fine. Fold in the cooked apples.
- In a deep pan or Dutch oven, heat 2–3 inches of oil to 350–360°F (175–182°C).
- Drop about ¼ cup of batter per fritter into the hot oil with a spoon or small scoop. Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Lift out with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack over a baking sheet.
- Whisk the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla until smooth and pourable, adding more milk or sugar as needed.
- While the fritters are still slightly warm, dip them in the glaze or drizzle it over. Let set a few minutes before serving.
