Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13 baking dish with parchment or foil.
  2. Whisk the melted butter and cocoa powder in a large bowl until the cocoa dissolves. Whisk in both sugars and the salt until moistened, then whisk in the eggs and vanilla and beat well for about 1 minute.
  3. Stir in the flour with a spatula until a few streaks remain, then fold in the chocolate chips and scrape the bowl to mix in any loose flour.
  4. Spread the brownie batter thinly in the prepared pan and set aside.
  5. Beat the butter and both sugars on high for 3 to 4 minutes until light and fluffy, scraping the bowl as needed.
  6. Mix in the vanilla and egg, then scrape the bowl again.
  7. Add the salt, baking soda and baking powder and mix until combined.
  8. Mix in the flour until almost combined, then fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a handful for the top.
  9. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough onto the brownie batter, leaving gaps so some brownie shows through.
  10. Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 20 minutes uncovered.
  11. Cool completely in the pan before removing and cutting.
