Easy & Delicious APPLE STRUDEL Recipe
Ingredients
- Raisin⅓ cups
- Rum2 tbsp
- Apple3
- Breadcrumb1 cup
- Butter2 tbsp + 6 tbsp
- Sugar3 tbsp + 2 tbsp
- Lemon1 tbsp
- Cinnamon · ground½ tsp
- Salt¼ tsp
- Filo pastry6
- Custard
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Microwave the raisins and rum for 20 seconds, cover, and let them plump for 15 minutes.
- Peel, core and chop the apples into roughly ½-inch pieces.
- In a large bowl, toss the apples with the breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 3 tablespoons of sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon and salt.
- Stir in the plumped raisins and set aside, discarding the rum.
- Brush one phyllo sheet with melted butter and sprinkle with about a teaspoon of sugar. Stack the remaining sheets the same way, leaving the last sheet plain.
- Place the stack horizontally and spread the filling along the bottom edge, leaving a 2-inch border, in a 3-inch-wide strip with 2-inch gaps on both sides.
- Fold the sides over the filling, then roll the dough away from you to enclose the apples.
- Place the roll seam side down in the centre of the baking sheet, brush with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle with the rest of the sugar.
- Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 50–60 minutes, until golden brown.
- Cool before serving.
