Easy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe
Ingredients
- Vegetable oil2 tbsp
- Onion½
- Bell pepper1
- Garlic powder1 ½ tsp
- Salt1 tsp
- Black pepper · ground½ tsp
- Beef1 lb
- Hoagie rolls4
- Provolone cheese4 slices
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion, bell peppers, ½ teaspoon each of garlic powder and salt, and ¼ teaspoon of black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, until browned and caramelized. Move the vegetables to a plate.
- In a medium bowl, toss the steak with the remaining 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of black pepper until evenly coated.
- Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the same skillet and heat over high heat. Spread the steak in an even layer and cook without stirring until browned, about 1½ minutes. Flip the pieces and cook about 1 more minute until cooked through. Stir the vegetables back in to rewarm, then remove from the heat.
- Meanwhile, place the split rolls cut side up on a baking sheet and bake until lightly toasted, about 8 minutes.
- Divide the steak and vegetable mixture into 4 piles in the pan and top each with a slice of provolone. Cover and let the cheese melt for 2 to 3 minutes, returning the pan to low heat if needed.
- Place one portion of meat and cheese into each roll and serve immediately.
