Easy Stovetop Mac & Cheese (That Kids & Adults will Love!)
Ingredients
- Macaroni pasta · dried8 oz
- Milk1 cup
- Butter2 tbsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Black pepper · ground¼–½ tsp
- Smoked paprika¼ tsp
- Mustard · ground¼ tsp
- Colby jack cheese · shredded1 cup
- American cheese4 slices
Instructions
- Bring 3 cups of well-salted water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat.
- Add the pasta once boiling, return to a boil and cook 7 minutes, stirring now and then.
- Drain the pasta, discarding the water. Keep the pasta in the colander and return the empty pan to the burner.
- In the pan over medium-low heat, combine the milk, butter, salt, pepper, paprika and mustard. Stir often over low heat until the butter melts.
- Return the pasta to the pan and stir well.
- Add the cheeses and let them sit about 30 seconds until slightly melted, then stir until every noodle is coated. Do not raise the heat or the cheese won't melt properly.
- Turn off the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally; it will thicken and cling to the noodles.
- Serve immediately.
