Fast Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread: Bake it Easy
Ingredients
- Butter · melted6 tbsp
- Bread1 box
- Yeast
- Mozzarella cheese · grated⅔ cups
- Chili flake · flakes grated, for garnish
- Pizza sauce · for serving
Instructions
- Stir the melted butter and the seasoning packet together in a small bowl.
- In a medium bowl, mix the bread mix, hot water, yeast and 2 tablespoons (about 30g) of the seasoned butter until a soft, slightly rough dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead about 1 minute, until smooth and somewhat bouncy.
- Pat into a rectangle about 7 by 6 inches. Cut into 5 rows and 6 columns for 30 pieces (about 23g each).
- Shape each piece into a ball, keeping the rest covered, and arrange 1/4 inch apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a tree shape: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 2, 2. (Alternatively, use a greased paper Christmas tree pan, filling the corners first; the balls won't touch.)
- Cover and let rise about 30 minutes, until slightly puffy. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F with a rack in the center.
- Uncover, brush generously with about half the remaining seasoned butter, re-cover and let rise another 15 to 30 minutes, until puffier and a pressed dough springs back slowly.
- Brush again with seasoned butter, then top evenly with the mozzarella.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and the rolls are golden brown.
- Brush with any leftover seasoned butter and sprinkle with red pepper flakes and/or Parmesan if using.
