Flaky Apple Turnovers That Bake Up in 30 Minutes! #shorts
Ingredients
- Puff pastry1 lb
- Flour1 tbsp
- Apple1 ¼ lb
- Butter1 tbsp
- Brown sugar¼ cups
- Cinnamon · ground½ tsp
- Salt0.13 tsp
- Egg1
- Sugar½ cups
- Cream1–2 tbsp
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Thaw the puff pastry according to the package instructions while you make and cool the filling.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a pot over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook, stirring now and then, until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Lower the heat and stir in 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and the salt. Simmer for 3 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Take off the heat and let cool.
- Roll the first pastry sheet into an 11-inch square and cut it into 4 equal squares. Spoon cooled filling over half of each square, leaving at least a 1/2-inch border.
- Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon water. Brush the edges lightly with egg wash, fold the pastry over the filling, and crimp the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
- Repeat with the second pastry sheet to make 8 turnovers in total.
- Place the turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet at least 1 inch apart. Cut 2-3 small slits in the top of each, brush with egg wash and bake 20 to 23 minutes, until golden and puffed.
- While the turnovers are still warm, mix the powdered sugar with heavy cream, adding enough to reach the desired thickness, and drizzle over the turnovers.
