Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter the bottom of a rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Heat 1/2 Tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion, then the 2 lb ground beef, and break the beef up with a spatula.
  3. Season the beef with 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper and 1 tsp garlic powder. Cook, breaking it up, until just cooked through, then take off the heat.
  4. Tilt the skillet and spoon off the excess fat. Stir 1/4 cup mayonnaise into the beef.
  5. Cut the rolls in half. Place the bottom halves on the buttered sheet and cover them with the 8 slices of cheddar.
  6. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the cheese, pressing the edges square with the back of a spatula. Top with the 6 oz shredded cheddar.
  7. Set the roll tops cut-side down over the burgers. Brush the tops with the 2 Tbsp melted butter and immediately sprinkle with 1 Tbsp sesame seeds.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the tops are golden brown.
