Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Mix the yeast and sugar with 1 tablespoon of warm water and leave in a warm place for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, onion seeds, salt and baking powder.
  3. Add the frothy yeast to the flour along with the oil, yoghurt and milk.
  4. Knead with slightly wet hands, folding as you go, until the dough is soft.
  5. Put the dough in a bowl, cover with cling film and leave in a warm place to rise for at least 1 hour (longer if possible).
  6. Divide the dough into four balls and place them on a floured surface.
  7. Heat some butter or ghee in a small pan, add the sliced garlic and cook gently until just softened, without letting it colour.
  8. Flatten a large dough ball, place a spoonful of the softened garlic (with little butter) in the middle, fold the dough around it and seal.
  9. Roll the sealed dough into a tear shape about 0.5 cm (¼ inch) thick.
  10. Heat a tava or frying pan until hot. Cook the naan for about 1 to 2 minutes until browned on one side.
  11. Transfer to a baking tray, browned side down, and grill on high for 2 to 5 minutes until puffed up.
  12. Brush with the garlic butter before serving.
