Homemade Artisan Crackers
Ingredients
- Flour2 cups
- Sugar1 tsp
- Salt · for topping1 tsp
- Onion powder½ tsp
- Garlic powder¼ tsp
- Rosemary · finely chopped1 tbsp
- Extra virgin olive oil3 tbsp
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and rosemary (or other add-ins). Stir in the water and olive oil with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough forms a clump.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 1 to 2 minutes, adding a little flour as needed, until it no longer sticks to your hands and forms a rough ball. Return it to the bowl, cover, and rest for at least 10 minutes, up to 1 hour at room temperature.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C) and line large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cut the dough in half and keep one half covered while you work with the other.
- Roll one half on a lightly floured surface into a thin rectangle, about 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) thick. If it keeps shrinking back, cover it and rest it 5 minutes, then roll again.
- Cut the dough into rectangles about 3 x 1.5 inches using a ruler and pizza cutter. Transfer them carefully to the prepared sheets.
- Repeat with the second half of the dough.
- Prick the crackers all over with a fork. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Bake for about 9-12 minutes, turning the sheets halfway through, until golden brown and crisp.
- Cool completely on the sheets on a rack until crisp.
