Homemade Dirt Pudding
Ingredients
- Sugar1
- Dutch process cocoa · powder½ cups
- Cornstarch⅓ cups
- Salt¼ tsp
- Milk4
- Butter · softened3 tbsp
- Vanilla2 tsp
- Oreo24–30
- Gummy worms24
Instructions
- Whisk the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch and salt in a medium saucepan. Set over medium heat and slowly whisk in the milk until combined.
- Bring to a boil, whisking now and then. This takes about 10 minutes; do not raise the heat to speed it up. Once it bubbles in the centre, whisk constantly and boil for 1 minute. It is ready when it coats the back of a spoon without dripping off.
- Remove from the heat and whisk in the butter and vanilla.
- Pour into a heatproof bowl, rest 5 minutes, then press plastic wrap onto the surface. Refrigerate for 1 hour; it will still be a little loose.
- Crush the Oreos in a food processor or blender into crumbs.
- Make the cups in layers: a couple of tablespoons of Oreo crumbs in the bottom, then 1/4 cup of pudding, more crumbs, another 1/4 cup of pudding, and a final layer of crumbs. Push a few gummy worms into the top layer.
- Refrigerate uncovered for 3 more hours, up to 48 hours.
