Homemade Tahini Recipe | How to Make Creamy Tahini
Ingredients
- Sesame seed2 cups
- Salt
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
- Optional: for a nuttier flavour, toast the sesame seeds in a dry skillet over low heat for 3–5 minutes, stirring constantly until fragrant, without browning. Let them cool completely. Skip this for raw tahini.
- Put the sesame seeds in a high-speed blender or food processor and blend on medium speed. Stop often to scrape the sides and bottom. The seeds will turn crumbly, then form a thick paste.
- If the mixture is too thick or dry, add 1–2 tablespoons of neutral oil. Keep blending until smooth, creamy and pourable, which can take 5–10 minutes depending on your blender.
- Taste the tahini. Add a small pinch of salt if you want to soften the bitterness, though the creator usually doesn't add salt at this stage.
- Transfer to a clean, airtight jar and store in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator.
