Honeycomb Bread (Khaliat Nahl) That Melts in Your Mouth!
Ingredients
- Milk½ cups
- Olive oil¼ cups
- Sugar2 tsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Yeast2 ¼ tsp
- Flour3 cups
- Cream cheese8 oz
- Egg1
- Sesame seed1 tbsp
- Onion seed1 tbsp
- Honey3 tbsp
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, olive oil and sugar. Add the yeast, salt and flour and mix until combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a draft-free spot for 45 minutes, or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 30 equal pieces. Flatten each, place a piece of cream cheese in the centre, pinch the edges to seal and roll into a smooth ball. Repeat with the rest.
- Arrange the balls in a greased pan (16-inch round, 9x13 inch, or two smaller pans), leaving space between them.
- Cover loosely with a towel and let rise for 15 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame and nigella seeds. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
- If you want more colour, broil for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely.
- Drizzle the hot bread with honey syrup and let it soak in. Serve warm.
