How to Make a McGriddle! | Hilah Cooking
Ingredients
- Maple syrup½ cups
- Batch of pancake batter1
- Egg4
- Bacon · cooked4
- American cheese4 slices
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Boil the maple syrup in a small pot over medium heat, stirring often and constantly once it boils hard so it does not stick to the pot.
- When the syrup reaches about 230°F, it calms down and turns slightly darker.
- Remove from heat when it is quite dark and smells faintly of caramel, at about 265°F.
- Spread the syrup thinly on the lined sheet and let it cool completely, then peel it off in chunks and break it into crystals.
- Make one batch of pancake batter, or any batter that yields 8 pancakes about 4 inches wide.
- Grease round molds with butter if using them, then heat a griddle over medium heat and butter it.
- Place the molds on the griddle, pour 2 tablespoons batter into each, add several maple crystals, then pour 2 more tablespoons of batter on top.
- Cook until bubbles form around the edges and the edges look set, remove the rings with tongs, flip, and cook 1 to 2 minutes more until done.
- Assemble each sandwich with a slice of American cheese, a scrambled or fried egg, a piece of bacon or sausage, and a second pancake.
