How to make Aloe Vera Juice at home
Ingredients
- Aloe vera leaf1
- Aloe vera gel2 inches
- Sweetener1 tsp
- Lemon1 tbsp
Instructions
- Rinse the aloe leaf under running water, then pat it dry.
- Trim both ends off the leaf and stand it upright in a tall container for 12–15 minutes so the yellow latex drains out.
- Wipe away any latex left on the base. Cut the leaf crosswise into 2–3 inch pieces and soak them in clean water for 2–3 minutes.
- Drain the water, rinse the pieces again in fresh water, and set them on a rack to dry.
- Cut off the thorny edges on both sides of each piece.
- Peel off the green rind on both sides with a small knife or peeler, leaving clear gel. Alternatively, slice each piece in half along the gel and scrape the gel out with a spoon, leaving the rind behind.
- Check the gel is clear, with no yellow latex or green rind left, and remove any with a small knife. Rinse the gel in clean water to clear any remaining latex. Refrigerate in a glass container, for up to 2 weeks, or freeze.
- Blend the required amount of gel with 3/4 to 1 cup water or fruit juice until smooth.
- Strain into a serving cup, pressing the gel through with a spoon, then add more water or juice to get all the gel through. Discard any rind left in the strainer.
- Add lemon juice, more water or juice to taste, and honey if using. Drink immediately.
