How To Make Chicken Fried Steak - The BEST Chicken Fried Steak Recipe | Hilah Cooking
Ingredients
- Beef¾ lb
- Salt½ tsp
- Egg · beaten2
- Flour½ cups
- Black pepper1 tsp
- Sleeve Saltine crackers · crushed to make about 2 cups of crumbs½
- Vegetable oil · for frying¼ cups
Instructions
- Pound each steak piece with the flat side of a meat mallet, working from the centre outward, until about 1/3 inch thick.
- Go over each piece again with the spiked side of the mallet, gently so the meat does not tear.
- Sprinkle the steak with the salt and set aside.
- Mix the flour with the black pepper and put it on a plate.
- Beat the eggs well in a shallow bowl.
- Crush the crackers and spread them on a plate.
- Bread each steak by dipping it in egg, then flour, then egg again, then crackers.
- Set the breaded steaks aside while you heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat.
- Test the oil: it is ready when a cracker crumb sizzles when tossed in.
- Fry the steaks one at a time without crowding the pan, for about 3 minutes.
- Turn the steaks and reduce the heat to medium-high, then cook another 3 to 4 minutes until just barely pink in the middle.
- Keep warm in the oven while you cook the rest if needed.
