How to Make Filet-O-Fish Sandwich (Copy Cat Recipe) | Hilah Cooking
Ingredients
- Fish
- Pollock2
- Lemon2 tbsp
- Milk½ cups
- Oyster · finely crushed2 cups
- Breadcrumb½ cups
- Oil for frying2 cups
- Tartar Sauce
- Onion · minced2 tbsp
- Mayonnaise⅓ cups
- Pickle · minced2 tbsp
- Salt
- American cheese4–6 slices
- Burger bun4–6
Instructions
- Cut the fillets into roughly 3-inch squares; save the scraps too.
- Put the fish in a shallow bowl, sprinkle with the lemon juice and let it marinate for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, put the crumbs in a shallow bowl and line a plate or baking sheet with parchment or waxed paper.
- Drain the excess lemon juice, then add the milk to the fish.
- Lift the pieces out, dredge them in the crumbs to coat completely, dip them in milk again, then coat in crumbs once more. Place the coated fillets on the paper and refrigerate for 10 minutes up to 3 hours so the coating sticks.
- Make the tartar sauce: mix the onion, pickles and mayonnaise with a pinch of salt and a dash of white pepper, then refrigerate.
- Unwrap the cheese slices and cut them.
- Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet until a crumb sizzles when dropped in, about 350°F (use a thermometer).
- Fry the cold fillets for about 2 minutes per side, until golden and cooked through. Move them to a rack.
- Warm the buns in the microwave for 10 seconds, or until soft.
- Put a cheese slice on the bottom of each bun, top with one or two fish squares, add a big scoop of tartar sauce, and close the sandwich.
