How to Make Fried Calzone | Deep Fried Pizza Recipe | Pizza Fritta
Ingredients
- Bread dough100
- Ham2 slices
- Mozzarella cheese
- Basil3
- Flour
- Sunflower oil
- Mixed herb · dried
Instructions
- Spread a little flour on a board. Place the dough ball in the centre and, using your fingertips, press and open it into a circle, flipping it and flouring both sides.
- Roll the dough with a rolling pin in one direction and then the other, adding flour on top and repeating. Keep it medium-sized and not too thin.
- Lay a line of mozzarella through the middle of the dough.
- Roll up the ham slices and place them on the cheese, keeping the filling away from the edges. Tear the basil leaves over the ham.
- Fold one half of the dough over the filling to meet the other side, press the edges together with your fingertips, and pull the edges to help them meet.
- Flour the top, then crimp the edges with a fork, taking care not to make holes, and repeat on the other side.
- Heat sunflower oil in a frying pan filled to about three-quarters with oil until hot.
- Drop the calzone into the hot oil, fry for about 2 minutes, then turn it with tongs. Fry until browned on both sides.
- Lift the calzone out with a slotted utensil, drain it on paper towel and pat the top to remove excess oil.
- Optionally, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with dried herbs, and add a basil leaf to the side.
