How to Make Swedish Meatballs | Hilah Cooking
Ingredients
- Ground beef1 lb
- Ground pork½ lb
- Breadcrumb1 cup
- Milk½ cups
- Onion · minced¼ cups
- Garlic · minced1 clove
- Egg1
- Salt1 tsp
- Black pepper½ tsp
- Allspice¼ tsp
- Nutmeg¼ tsp
- Gravy
- Butter4 tbsp
- Flour3 tbsp
- Beef broth3 cups
- Cream¼ cups
Instructions
- Combine all meatball ingredients in a bowl (or a stand mixer with the paddle attachment) and mix until very smooth.
- Form about 40 1-inch balls and arrange them on a waxed paper-lined tray. Chill for 30 minutes. (Alternatively, freeze until solid, then store in airtight containers; do not thaw before cooking, and add 5-10 minutes to the cooking time.)
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry half the meatballs, turning often, until browned but not cooked through. Remove them.
- Add the remaining butter and brown the rest of the meatballs the same way. Remove them.
- Add the flour to the skillet and whisk until toasted.
- Whisk in the broth until smooth.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet and stir gently to coat them in the gravy. Simmer 10-15 minutes, until the gravy has thickened and the meatballs are cooked through.
- Reduce the heat to low and gently stir in the cream.
