Hungarian-Italian Stuffed Peppers: It's What's For Dinner
Ingredientes
- Ground beef1 ½ lb
- Ground pork1 lb
- Onion · grated, diced1 ½
- Garlic · grated, minced4
- Bell pepper8
- Rice1 xícara
- Paprika3 ½ colheres de chá
- Garlic powder1 colher de sopa
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Olive oil5 colheres de sopa
- Milk¼ xícara
- Bbq sauce½ xícara
- Tomato sauce1
Modo de preparo
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, grated onion, grated garlic, spices, milk, olive oil, salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
- Cut the tops off the peppers and carefully remove the seeds, keeping each pepper intact. Poke a small hole in the tip of each pepper with a skewer to help prevent splitting.
- Loosely fill each pepper about 80% full with the meat mixture, leaving room for the rice to expand. Shape any leftover meat into a meatloaf in a loaf pan, top it with one-third of the sauce, and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Spread the stuffed peppers in a 9x13 baking dish and spoon enough sauce over them to just cover them.
- Bake uncovered for 60 to 90 minutes, checking the peppers at the 1-hour mark. Remove them from the oven once a paring knife slides easily into them.
