Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the sausage meat, egg, onion, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry into a rectangle about 12 x 14 inches (30 x 35 cm).
  4. Cut the pastry in half lengthwise to make two strips, each about 6 x 14 inches (15 x 35 cm).
  5. Divide the filling in half. On each strip, shape half the filling into a log along the length of the pastry. Brush the pastry edges with egg wash.
  6. Wrap the pastry over the filling to form a log. Trim the edges to neaten, press with a fork to seal, then prick holes in the top with the fork.
  7. Cut each log into pieces about 1½ inches (4 cm) long, measured at the seam side, and place them on the prepared sheet. This should make about 20 sausage rolls.
  8. Brush with egg wash and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.
