Italian Donut Heaven: Homemade Zeppole at Their Best! #shorts
Ingredients
- Milk½ cups
- Butter8 tbsp
- Sugar1 tsp + ¼ cups
- Salt¼ tsp
- Flour1 cup
- Egg4
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large 3-quart saucepan, bring the water, milk, butter, sugar and salt to a boil over medium heat, stirring often.
- Off the heat, beat in 1 cup flour all at once with a wooden spoon. Return to medium heat and stir constantly for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes until the dough is smooth and a thin film forms on the bottom of the pan.
- Move the dough to a large bowl and beat on medium speed for 1 minute to cool it slightly. Add the 4 eggs one at a time, letting each one fully combine before adding the next. Beat 1 more minute until the dough is smooth and falls in a thick ribbon from the whisk.
- Fill a piping bag (or large zip bag) fitted with a 1/2-inch opening with the dough.
- Heat oil to 375°F in a Dutch oven or deep fryer, using a thermometer. Pipe 1-inch lengths into the hot oil, cutting each piece off swiftly, staying close to the oil surface to avoid splashes.
- Fry 4-5 minutes total, turning them halfway if they do not turn by themselves. Drain on a paper-towel-lined plate, then dust with confectioners sugar before serving.
