ITALIAN GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH RECIPE | Mozzarella in Carrozza | Fried Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients
- Bread4 slices
- Egg3
- Flour
- Prosciutto4–6 slices
- Milk100 ml
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Mozzarella cheese
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
- Cut the mozzarella into slices about 1 cm thick.
- Crack 3 eggs into a bowl and whisk well. Add the milk, salt and pepper and mix again.
- Cut the crusts off the bread, taking care not to remove too much of the white part.
- Pour oil into a frying pan and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches about 150°C.
- Lay the mozzarella slices side by side on 2 slices of bread. Place 2-3 thin slices of Prosciutto di Parma on top, then cover with a plain slice of bread and press gently to seal tightly.
- Dust the edges of the sandwich in the flour, turning it until all edges are coated.
- Dip the sandwich fully in the egg and milk mixture, then lift it so the excess drips back into the bowl.
- Fry the sandwich in the hot oil for 2-3 minutes, until it just turns lightly golden.
- Lift it out with a utensil that drains oil well and rest it on a plate lined with kitchen paper to absorb excess oil. Repeat with the rest and serve warm while the cheese is still melted.
