Jalapeno Popper Pinwheels are a Perfect Holiday Appetizer!
Ingredients
- Puff pastry2
- Vegan cream cheese8 oz
- Yoghurt2 tbsp
- Pickled jalapeño1–2 tbsp + 2–4 tbsp
- Salt⅓ tsp
- Parsley · dried1 tsp
- Dill · dried½ tsp
- Onion · flakes2 tsp
- Garlic2 cloves
- Cheddar cheese10 tbsp
- Parmesan cheese¼ cups
- Jalapeño chili · chopped2–4 tbsp + 1 tbsp
- Breadcrumb2 tbsp
Instructions
- Thaw the puff pastry, and let it sit while you prepare the other ingredients.
- In a bowl, mix the cream cheese with the yogurt and jalapeño brine. If the cream cheese is still hard, microwave it for a few seconds and mix again. Add the salt, dried parsley, dill, onion flakes and minced garlic and mix into a creamy spread. Taste and adjust the salt, herbs and tang.
- Roll out each pastry sheet lightly floured, making it 1 to 2 inches larger in each direction.
- Spread the jalapeño spread over each sheet, leaving a 1/2 inch strip bare along one edge. Sprinkle evenly with the cheddar, parmesan, and the pickled and fresh jalapeños.
- Brush the bare strip with water. Roll the sheet up tightly from the opposite edge and press the wet edge to seal it, using your fingers or a fork.
- Wrap each roll in parchment and freeze for at least 15 minutes, until firm enough to slice. Repeat with the second sheet.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C). Slice the rolls into 1/2 inch thick pieces and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with a little oil or maple syrup if you like.
- Mix the breadcrumbs, cheddar and jalapeños in a small bowl, then spoon onto each pinwheel.
- Bake 25 minutes, turn the sheet around, then bake another 5 minutes or longer, until all the pinwheels are golden. Serve as they are or with a dip.
