Jamie's Indulgent Sticky Onion Tart | Link in description #shorts
Ingredients
- Onion4
- Butter50 g
- Thyme4 sprigs
- Bay leaf4
- Brown sugar2 tbsp
- Apple cider vinegar4 tbsp
- Garlic8 cloves
- Puff pastry320 g
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F, gas 7).
- Peel the onions and halve them across the middle. Melt the butter in a 26cm non-stick ovenproof frying pan over medium heat. Strip in the thyme leaves, add the bay leaves, and let the butter bubble. Add the sugar, vinegar and 100ml water.
- Place the onion halves cut side down in the pan. Peel and halve the garlic cloves and tuck them into the gaps. Season generously with sea salt and black pepper.
- Cover, reduce the heat to low and steam for 10 minutes to soften the onions slightly. Remove the lid and cook until the liquid starts to caramelise, shaking the pan gently now and then so nothing sticks.
- Lay the pastry over the onions and push it down into the edges of the pan with a wooden spoon. Bake for 35 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Wearing oven gloves, place a large plate over the pan and carefully invert the tart onto it.
