Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter the inside of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni al dente in boiling salted water following the package directions. Drain, then return to the pot or transfer to the baking dish. Add the melted butter and stir until combined.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the evaporated milk, heavy cream, eggs, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pour over the macaroni.
  4. Set aside 1 cup of the shredded extra-sharp Cheddar. Stir the remaining shredded Cheddar and the cubed sharp Cheddar into the macaroni. Scatter the reserved 1 cup of shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Cover the dish with foil, greased on the underside with nonstick spray. Bake until bubbly, about 40 minutes.
  6. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes, until the cheese is browned.
  7. Take the dish out of the oven and let it stand for 15 minutes before serving.
  8. Optional: if the macaroni needs more browning, broil it for 5 minutes.
