Instructions
- Prepare the braai for direct cooking over medium heat, about 180°C.
- Combine the chosen spice blend in a small bowl.
- In a braai-safe pan over the coals, or in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat, add a little vegetable oil, the red pepper and onion, and cook for 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the spice blend and cook for 1 minute. Add the chakalaka and simmer for 5 minutes. Take off the heat and set aside.
- Braai the boerewors portions on the grid for about 10 minutes, turning halfway. Once cooked through, remove and set aside.
- Split the hot dog rolls along the top without cutting through. Add half the cheese, a wors portion, 2-3 spoonfuls of the chakalaka and the rest of the cheese. Wrap each roll tightly in foil.
- Return the foil parcels to the braai over medium-low heat and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning often, until the cheese melts and the rolls crisp slightly.
- When the cheese has fully melted, open the parcels, garnish with spring onion and serve.
