Make Snowman Rice Balls (Jumeokbap) for Christmas Holidays!
Ingredients
- Rice · cooked4 cups
- Sesame oil2 tsp
- Salt¼–½ tsp
- Sesame seed
- Nori seaweed1
- Perilla leaf1
- Carrot1
Instructions
- Cook the rice to make about 4 cups. About 1 1/2 cups of uncooked rice should be enough.
- Prepare the fillings while the rice cooks: SPAM strips fried with a little soy sauce and red chili pepper; ground beef cooked with 2 tsp soy sauce, 2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp mirin, 1/2 tsp garlic powder (or fresh chopped garlic), black pepper and toasted sesame seeds; egg jidan made from 2 lightly whisked eggs seasoned with salt, cooked in a pan on medium heat, flipped briefly, then cut into thin slices.
- Cut the perilla leaf into strips for the muffler. Cut the gim (sushi nori) into pieces for the hat, eyes, mouth, buttons and muffler.
- Peel the carrot and cut a slice into tiny triangles for the nose.
- Season the cooked rice with 2 tsp sesame oil and salt, using about 1/2 tsp of sea salt per 4 cups of rice (less for table salt or saltier salt). Mix, cover and set aside.
- Line a small bowl with plastic wrap and spread rice around the bottom part to shape the head and body.
- Place the filling in the centre of the rice, then gather the plastic wrap to form a rice ball.
- Set the head ball on top of the body ball, then decorate with the cut gim pieces for the face and buttons.
