Instructions

  1. Make the filling: in a pan, mix the condensed milk, egg yolks, evaporated milk and cornstarch, stirring until the cornstarch dissolves. Cook over low heat until thickened, then stir in the vanilla and refrigerate to set.
  2. Make the dough: mix together the milk, egg, condensed milk and yeast. Add the flour and salt and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Add the softened butter and mix until fully absorbed.
  4. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead, slap and fold until smooth and elastic.
  5. Shape into a ball, coat with oil, and cover to rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Punch the dough down to release the air. Roll it into a rectangle about 18 x 12 inches.
  7. Spread the chilled filling over the dough and cut it into strips 2 inches wide.
  8. Roll each strip and place it in a greased 11-inch baking dish. Leave uncovered to proof for 20 minutes while the oven preheats to 170°C (350°F). Top with almond slivers.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden.
