My new favorite way to make Buffalo Tofu
Ingredients
- Extra firm tofu1
- Vegetable oil1 tbsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Black pepper
- Onion powder1 tsp
- Garlic powder1 ½ tsp
- Paprika1 tsp
- Nutritional yeast1 tbsp
- Potato starch2 tbsp
- Buffalo sauce½ cups
- Chili pepper1 cup
- Brown sugar2 tsp
- Cayenne pepper½ tsp
- Worcestershire sauce1 tsp
- Vegan butter5 tbsp
- Carrot
- Ranch dressing
- Blue cheese
Instructions
- Press the tofu for about 15 minutes, then tear it into bite-sized pieces.
- Put the tofu in a bowl, drizzle with oil, season with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika and nutritional yeast, and toss to coat. Sprinkle on 2 tablespoons of starch and toss again.
- Spread the tofu in one layer in the air fryer basket and cook at 400°F for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes or so. Cook it a little longer than seems necessary so it stays crisp when sauced.
- In a saucepan, whisk together the hot sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, cayenne and Worcestershire sauce. Heat over medium-low.
- When the sauce starts to bubble, lower the heat and whisk in the cold butter a piece at a time, stirring constantly until emulsified.
- Remove all but about 1/2 cup of the sauce to a jar for later. Add the crispy tofu to the remaining sauce and toss to coat.
- Serve right away with vegan ranch or blue cheese dressing, carrots and celery.
