Naan Recipe - how to make soft & fluffy garlic naan
Ingredients
- Flour2 cups
- Yoghurt½ cups
- Milk6–8 tbsp
- Oil2 tbsp
- Sugar2 tsp
- Salt½–¾ tsp
- Garlic · grated1–1 ½ tsp + 5–6
- Baking powder½ tsp
- Baking soda¼ tsp
- Butter · melted3 tbsp
- Cilantro¼ cups
- Onion seed1 tsp
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar and grated garlic.
- Add the yogurt, oil and 4 tablespoons of lukewarm milk, then mix into a smooth dough, adding more warm milk as needed (up to half a cup in total).
- Knead until the dough is soft, elastic and pliable; it should dent easily when pressed with a finger.
- Optionally cover and rest the dough for 1 to 2 hours in a warm place, or use it straight away.
- Grease your fingers, divide the dough into 6 to 8 pieces and shape each into a smooth ball. Keep them covered.
- Dust the work surface with a little flour and roll one ball to about 8 to 9 inches long and 5 to 6 inches wide.
- Scatter kalonji seeds, sliced garlic and coriander leaves over the naan and press or roll them in gently.
- Heat a griddle or pan until very hot, then place the naan on it. Cook until bubbles appear on top, about a minute.
- Flip with tongs and cook until brown spots appear on both sides; you can also finish it directly over a gas flame or on a wire rack over the stove.
- Brush the cooked naan with butter, make sure it is cooked through on both sides, and serve right away.
