NAAN RECIPE (SOFT AND EASY)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the water, yogurt, cooled melted butter or oil and instant yeast well. Add the sugar, bread flour and salt, and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough until smooth, about 8 to 10 minutes by hand, or 6 to 8 minutes on medium-low in a stand mixer. Put it in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and leave it to rise for 1½ hours, until doubled. If kneading by hand, do one or two stretch and folds during the rise.
  3. After the rise, punch down the dough and divide it into 6 roughly equal pieces. Shape each into a ball, cover, and rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Lightly flour the work surface and roll each ball into a round or oval about ¼ inch (about 6 mm) thick.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. Lay one naan flat on it so the whole surface touches the pan.
  6. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until large bubbles form and the bottom has golden spots and a few charred patches. Flip and cook 30 to 60 seconds more, until the second side is lightly charred and cooked through.
  7. Remove from the pan and brush the hot naan with melted butter or garlic butter. Garnish with chopped parsley or cilantro if you like, and serve warm.
