Paw Print Cupcake Cake As Inspired By The Lion King • Tasty
Ingredients
- Yellow cake mix · prepared according to package instructions15 oz
- Butter · softened6 sticks
- Milk2 tbsp
- Vanilla2 tsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Sugar2 lb
- Food coloring¼ tsp
- Chocolate chip · melted1 cup
- Cocoa powder¾ cups
Instructions
- Line two 12-cup cupcake tins with brown liners, bake the cake batter per package directions, and let the cupcakes cool completely.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth but not fluffy. Add the milk, vanilla and salt and beat to combine.
- Sift in the powdered sugar and beat until smooth, without overmixing to avoid air pockets.
- Divide the frosting evenly between 2 medium bowls (about 3 cups / 345 g each).
- Stir the golden yellow food coloring into one bowl. Stir the cooled melted chocolate and cocoa powder into the other bowl.
- On a large tray, arrange the cupcakes in a paw shape: a bottom arc of 4 cupcakes, 1 cupcake at the top center, an arc of 5 over the bottom cupcakes, an arc of 6, then a larger arc of the remaining 8 over all of them.
- Dollop yellow frosting onto each cupcake, then spread it to fill the gaps, pushing it outward from the center to make crisp outer edges. Smooth the top.
- Fit a piping bag with a medium star tip and fill it with the chocolate frosting. Pipe a paw outline with up-and-down motions, starting with the bottom pad and then 4 smaller pads. Fill in each outline.
