Ingredients
- Extra virgin olive oil1 tbsp
- Chili flake · crushed¼ tsp
- Garlic1 clove
- Ketchup3 tbsp
- Salt0.13 tsp
- Black pepper · ground0.13 tsp
- Shokupan3 slices
- Onion0.13
- Bell pepper0.13
- Cherry tomato4
- Ham3 slices
- Mozzarella cheese · shredded6 tbsp
Instructions
- Gently warm 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper and 1 minced or crushed garlic clove in a small pan on medium-low until warm but not hot. Sauté about 2 minutes, until fragrant but not browned.
- Add 3 tablespoons ketchup and stir well.
- Season with ⅛ teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt (half that for table salt) and ⅛ teaspoon black pepper, stir, then transfer to a bowl to cool.
- Cut 3 slices of shokupan 3/4 inch (1.5 cm) thick if not already sliced. Thinly slice ⅛ of a sweet onion and ⅛ of a green bell pepper, cut 4 cherry tomatoes into about three slices each, and cut 3 slices of ham into thin short strips.
- Set the bread on the work surface. Cut diagonally in halves if serving children, then put the halves back together to look like one slice. Spread about 1 tablespoon of sauce on each slice and sprinkle with a small pinch of mozzarella.
- Scatter onion, green pepper and ham over each slice, then top with tomato slices and the remaining mozzarella, about 2 tablespoons per pizza toast.
- Set the toaster oven rack to the middle position and place the toast directly on it, with toppings not hanging over the edges. Toast on High (450°F / 230°C) until the edges brown and the cheese melts, about 10 minutes.
- Serve hot right away, with extra red pepper flakes if you like.
