Salmon Avocado Rolls
Ingredients
- Rice240 g
- Nori seaweed1
- Salmon100 g
- Avocado4
- Sushi rolling mat1
- Water mixed with 1 tablespoon of vinegar1 cup
Instructions
- Place a sheet of yaki nori on the mat, shiny side down, nearest to you.
- Wet your hands with the vinegar water. Take half the sushi rice and shape it into an oval ball.
- Put the rice in the centre of the nori and spread it out to cover the sheet, leaving 1 cm at the far end uncovered. Spread evenly without pressing hard.
- Lay the salmon strip across the centre of the rice, joining short strips so they reach both ends.
- Lay 2 avocado slices (3 if they are short) along the salmon, breaking a slice to straighten it if needed.
- Lift the near end of the mat with both thumbs, press your fingers firmly on the filling and roll the mat away from you.
- Once the edge of the mat is at the top, let go of the filling and keep rolling slowly until the mat reaches the far end of the rice. Don't roll the mat's edge into the rice.
- Press the mat gently but firmly around the roll.
- Roll the roll about 90 degrees so the uncovered nori end overlaps and seals the seam, then press firmly with both hands and unroll the mat.
- Place the roll seam-side down on a board.
- Wipe a sharp knife with a wet towel, then cut the roll in half, cut each half in half, and cut each piece in half again to get 8 pieces, wiping the knife after each cut.
- Arrange the pieces on a plate. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi if you like.
