Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut about 200 g (7-8 oz) of sirloin into strips about 13 cm (5½ in) long, 1.25 cm (½ in) wide and 1.25 cm (½ in) thick.
  2. Pound the beef strips against the grain with the back of a knife blade to tenderise them.
  3. In a bowl, mix the beef with 1 minced garlic clove, 1 tsp honey, ½ tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil and ¼ tsp ground black pepper. Mix well with a spoon and refrigerate.
  4. Cut 1 large carrot into strips 4½ in (about 11.5 cm) long, ½ in (1.25 cm) wide and ½ in thick. Cut 6-7 asparagus stalks (tops only) into 4½ in pieces. Cut 6-7 green onion stalks into 4½ in pieces.
  5. Boil 4 cups of water in a pot and add 1 tsp salt.
  6. Blanch the carrot strips, asparagus and the white parts of the green onions for 1 minute with the lid closed. Do not blanch the green parts.
  7. After 1 minute, drain the vegetables, rinse them in cold water and drain again.
  8. Thread the green onions, carrot, asparagus and beef strips onto skewers.
  9. Make a batter by mixing ½ cup flour, ½ cup water and ½ tsp salt in a bowl.
  10. Drizzle vegetable oil on a heated non-stick pan. Dip each skewer in the batter and place it in the pan. Control the heat so the skewers do not burn.
  11. After about 1 minute, when the bottoms are light golden brown, turn the skewers and cook for another minute. The pancake is done when the beef is cooked.
  12. Mix 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp vinegar and ½ tbsp chopped green onion to make the dipping sauce.
