Sorry, but I like This MORE than Apple Pie
Ingredients
- Flour1 cup + 3 tbsp
- Brown sugar1 ½ cups
- Oats2 cups
- Salt½ tsp
- Cinnamon3 tsp
- Butter1 stick
- Walnut½ cups
- Apple8
- Nutmeg¼ tsp
- Rum3 tbsp
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Make the streusel: combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup oats, 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp sea salt in a bowl.
- Cut in 1 stick butter with a pastry knife until it is blended in and the size of couscous. Fold in the finely chopped 1/2 cup walnuts with a rubber spatula, then freeze the streusel to keep the butter cold.
- Peel and core the 4 Granny Smith and 4 Fuji apples, then cut them into slices about 1/2 inch thick.
- In a large bowl, toss the apples with 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and 3 tablespoons dark rum (optional) until well combined.
- Transfer the apples to a deep 12x8-inch or regular 13x9-inch baking dish. No greasing is needed.
- Spread the chilled streusel evenly over the apples and pat it level.
- Bake uncovered at 350°F for 45 to 55 minutes, until the top is lightly browned, the edges are caramelized and the apples are tender.
