The BEST Mashed Potatoes Recipe
Ingredients
- Potato4 lb
- Salt1 tbsp
- Garlic · peeled4
- Butter½ cups
- Cream¾ cups
- Black pepper · ground
Instructions
- Peel the potatoes if you like, then cut them into roughly 1-inch chunks and put them in a large pot.
- Cover the potatoes with water by 1 inch. Add the salt and the garlic cloves if using, then bring to a boil over high heat and cook for about 10 minutes, until a fork goes in easily.
- Meanwhile, heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring now and then, for 3 to 4 minutes until the butter melts. Take off the heat and keep warm.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the warm pot. Over low heat, shake them around for a minute to dry them off, then take off the heat.
- Mash to the texture you like, then gently stir in the hot milk mixture.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
