the Best way to make crispy tofu
Ingredients
- Extra firm tofu1
- Olive oil1 tbsp
- Potato starch2 tbsp
- Salt½ tsp
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder½ tsp
- Onion powder½ tsp
Instructions
- Drain the tofu and press it for about 10 to 15 minutes, using a tofu press or by wrapping it in a clean lint-free towel and weighing it down with a flat object such as a small cutting board.
- Cut the pressed tofu into roughly 2.5 cm (1 inch) cubes, or tear it into bite-sized pieces. Tearing gives irregular edges that crisp up better and hold sauce well.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking tray with parchment or a silicone mat.
- Put the tofu in a large bowl. Drizzle with oil and add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Toss gently until coated, using a large spatula, or shake gently in a covered container.
- Sprinkle the starch over the tofu and toss or shake gently until every piece is coated and no dry starch remains at the bottom of the bowl.
- Arrange the tofu on the lined tray so the pieces don't touch.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then flip the pieces. Bake for another 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Pressing time affects the exact baking time.
- Take out of the oven and serve.
