The ONLY Hush Puppies Recipe you’ll ever need
Ingredients
- Cornmeal3 cups
- Flour1 ½ cups
- Egg2
- Salt1 tsp
- Baking soda½ tsp
- Onion · peeled diced½
- Buttermilk3 cups
Instructions
- Heat a medium pot of cooking oil to 350°F.
- Put all ingredients in a large bowl and mix with a spoon or whisk until fully combined and smooth. If the batter is dry, add more buttermilk; if it is too wet, add more flour. The batter should be thick.
- Using two spoons, take about 1 to 1½ tablespoons of batter and push it into the hot oil with the other spoon. The hush puppy should rise to the surface within a few seconds, then cook about 5 minutes in total, until browned on all sides and cooked through.
- Remove the hush puppies and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve with your favorite sauce.
